Security company compliance

PSIRA is where security compliance starts, not where it ends.

Starting a security company, or taking on a new guarding contract? Your PSIRA registration gets you in the door. Your officer contracts, your NBCPSS wage position, your deployment records and your firearm control are what an inspector or a client checks next.

Our Security Industry Pack carries the registration guidance, the employment file, the site registers and the commercial documents you need to hold and defend a contract.

Private security wages

Which wage rules apply to you

Private security wages, provident fund contributions and council levies are set by the sector bargaining council, not only by the national minimum wage.

Bargaining council configured. The National Bargaining Council for the Private Security Sector (NBCPSS) main collective agreement covers the private security sector nationally. Our Standard and Premium tiers include an NBCPSS compliance guide, and the Premium payroll register is set up for the sector’s provident fund and council levies.

Before you ask

Security questions

What documents do I need to start a security company in South Africa?

The business and every officer must be registered with PSIRA. You also need a written employment contract for every officer, a disciplinary code, a leave policy, UIF and COIDA registration, and a POPIA privacy notice for staff. Clients usually ask for a site instruction file, deployment and incident records, a B-BBEE affidavit and a company profile before they award a contract.

Is there a bargaining council for private security?

Yes. The National Bargaining Council for the Private Security Sector (NBCPSS) negotiates wages and conditions for the sector, including provident fund contributions and council levies. Our Standard and Premium tiers include an NBCPSS compliance guide.

Do you register my company with PSIRA?

No. Our pack includes a step-by-step PSIRA registration guide and an employer compliance checklist. The application itself is made by you to PSIRA.

Can I edit the templates?

Yes. Every document is supplied in Microsoft Word or Excel, completed with your company details. You can edit and reissue them for as long as you trade.

Do you register my company or handle my tax?

We handle CIPC filings through our CIPC & Statutory Filings service. We do not do SARS registrations or tax work. That is your accountant's work, and we will say so rather than guess.

Is this legal advice?

No. ComplianceIQ SA provides business compliance advisory services. Our guidance does not constitute legal advice. For matters requiring formal legal representation, we recommend consulting a qualified attorney or registered practitioner.
